One Day Seminar on Discourse on Korzybski

Organized in Collaboration with Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and Gujarat Sahitya Akademi 25 November 2012

For a broader comprehension and dissemination of Korzybskiís linguistic philosophy and reflecting on its applications in literary activities in the Gujarati literary tradition, the Centre had assigned the task of translating Kenneth Johnsonís work, General Semantics: An Outline Survey to Dr. Hemant Dave of Sardar Patel University . Dr. Dave successfully completed the translation and submitted the manuscript. Before publishing it, the Centre decided to conduct a seminar on general semantics in Gujarati with focus on this translation on 25 November 2012 in Ahmedabad in collaboration with Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and Gujarat Sahitya Akademi. Mr. Rajendra Patel, General Secretary of Sahitya Parishad shed light on Sahitya Parishadís philosophy, various literary endeavours and the significance of collaborative activities in making people aware of and interested in general semantics. Professor Kar, who delivered the welcome address, also spoke on the context and relevance of General Semantics and the programs of the Centre. Mr. Devkumar Trivedi delivered the keynote lecture of the program in which he deftly and lucidly discussed the major ideas and tenets of General Semantics. Professor Sitanshu Yashaschandra, Dr. Hemant Dave, Dr. Chandrakant Topiwala, and Professor Raman Soni, all eminent Gujarati scholars, spoke on various aspects of general semantics and analyzed Dr. Daveís translation collectively. The program was convened by Dr. Chandrakant Topiwala, a Trustee of the Balvant Parekh Centre. The purpose of this seminar, to discuss various aspects of this translation among a small group of Gujarati connoisseurs for evaluation, comments and suggestions so that revision of phraseology, if required and finalization of terminology can be done in an informed manner, had been fulfilled.
